42X3030DB vs 42X3030DG vs 42X3030D

There may be some slight confusion over the nomenclature of the new Toshiba Regza range of LCD TVs. The first part is easy to guess: 42 denotes a 42-inch screen... Toshiba also does 37" and 47" LCD TVs from the same series. X means that the LCD TV is from the X series family, which sits between the budget C series and the premium Z series (complete with 24fps support and motion interpolation 100Hz technology) due to arrive in September 2007.

The last couple of alphabets point towards the market to which the screen is catered. The Toshiba 42X3030DB is sold in the UK market (B for British); and the 42X3030DG is sold in the European market (G for Germany). 42X3030D is simply a generic all-encompassing model number that includes the above sub-denominations.

The 42X3030DB is dressed with a polished black bezel, differentiating it from the matte bezel of the cheaper C series. It features 2 HDMI inputs which should be adequate by today's standards, a VGA port, and the usual component and scart connections. The claw-shaped stand that we've come to associate with Toshiba LCD TVs is also readily attached out of the box, making setup painless and easy.
